Crown of Beauty Magazine: An Interview with the Founder

Welcome to Be the Blaze! I have the founder and Editor of Crown of Beauty Magazine here with me today to share some info about her amazing dream come true. Let me introduce you to Livy Lynn (and stick around til the end for a fun giveaway!).
Welcome! So excited to have you here on Be the Blaze! I'm going to start with a question you've probably been asked a hundred times, but what inspired you to start Crown of Beauty Magazine?
Thank you so much, Jacqueline! I'm happy to be here :) I love this question - I've always loved magazines, ever since I was a little girl, I've always dreamed of starting one! When I graduated high school, I wasn't entirely sure what I wanted to do with my life, or how God was leading me. To be honest, I felt a lot of pressure and was terrified of making the wrong decision. When I prayed and asked the Lord for direction, I really felt like He asked, "What would you LOVE to do?" And then, "What's an injustice you want to change or a people group you want to serve?" Combining my passion for magazines, and my love for encouraging, teen girls, just seemed to make sense! I've always had a passion for combatting the lies of the enemy & fighting for our generation. So I launched an online blog and went from there! Over the years as my readership grew, and I started writing and publishing fiction for teen girls, I set the blog on the back burner. Years later, the Lord resurrected the dream of having a magazine and print, and Crown of Beauty came to life!
Your debut issue has the beautiful theme of Sleeping Beauty/Awakening. How did you come up with this idea? And how would you connect Sleeping Beauty to your Biblical theme of Awakening?
Honestly, the idea has always kind of been there. Years back when I was brainstorming ideas for physical magazine issues, I always knew that I wanted to do a Sleeping Beauty themed shoot. I had such a vivid idea in mind for this cover. I love the spiritual themes that we can pull out of Disney films, such as Sleeping Beauty. God is so passionate about bringing our hearts from a place of death into a place of life, and I knew we wanted to explore that, both visually, and with our content. The way that Prince Phillip slayed the dragon and sliced his sword of truth through all the thorns and thicket, reminds me of what Jesus did to rescue us!
Crown of Beauty is a welcoming community where "there's always a seat at the table". How do you hope readers and writers will feel this sense of belonging through the magazine?
We are just at the beginning of growing our sweet little community here at Crown of Beauty! There's so many different ways to get connected, one of them being to join our Sisterhood Chat & meet likeminded sisters in Christ! I believe that friendships can be formed all over the world, and nobody should feel alone. As someone who has been through those seasons of loneliness, I know how it vitally important. It is to cultivate a space where young women can connect with one another, and make true kingdom friendships! For those who are a little bit shy, and don't want to connect online, it is my prayer that they will be encouraged by simply knowing that there are other women out there who love the Lord, understand what they're going through, and are praying for them! As sisters in Christ, it's our job to encourage & uplift one another!
What kind of topics, voices, or stories are you most excited to share in future issues? Are you looking for more fairytale-inspired pieces, personal testimonies, creative writing, or something else?
We haven't announced the theme of our next issue yet, but we've been having so much fun in the brainstorming phase. Honestly, there's going to be so much variety. That's a fun thing about having a magazine, is that literally the sky is the limit! We can have devotionals, crafting ideas, interviews, book reviews, healthy living and skin care tips, fashion... the possibilities are endless and we are just getting started!

We are just so excited to get our magazine issue in the hands of young women all over the world! It is my prayer that everyone who reads this magazine falls more in love with Jesus, has a deeper passion for His word, and is encouraged to pursue the dreams that God has placed in their hearts!
